Firewall

The PBX has an integrated software firewall, which helps you to limit access to the platform.

We strongly advice the administrator to make full use of this feature. Contact us if you have doubts on how to configure it correctly.

By factory default the firewall is configured to allow all traffic, which is required to perform the installation.

Once the installation has been completed you should set the firewall to only allow specific addresses which avoids unauthorised usage.

NOTE: The 0.0.0.0 addresses allow all IP addresses to access the server. To secure the server you will need to remove these lines once you have added specific addresses that are allowed.

There are three options available:

Add
To add a new firewall rule, complete all fields as follows:

  1. Select ‘Yes’ if this rule will allow access, or ‘No’ if this rule will block it.
  2. The ‘Netmask’ shows the number of binary bits turned to 1. For example use netmask 32 if the subnet is: 255.255.255.255. This links the rule to 1 address.
Use netmask 24 if the subnet is: 255.255.255.0. This links the rule to 255 addresses. See the TIP below for more information.
  3. You can specify the port that will be permitted / blocked. Leave it as ANY for all ports.
  4. You can specify the protocol that will be permitted / blocked. Leave it as ANY for all protocols.
  5. Add descriptive comments.

Edit
Select a firewall rule in the overview, and click on ‘Edit’ to view or change its settings.

Remove
Select a firewall rule in the overview, and click on ‘Remove’ to delete it.

NOTE: You will always need to at least add your own IP address to the firewall. You can verify what your own IP address is by going to : http://www.axeos.nl/showmyip.php

TIP: The subnet mask can be found using the following overview:
